On February 27, 2019, three groups of HCT-RAK Women’s campus (RKW) Engineering students successfully presented a proposal on upgrading the current “Smart Patient Room” (SPR) from last year’s final year capstone projects, to include multi SPRs and nurse control station capabilities.
The SPR utilizes Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) and consists of three projects as: Environmental Control, Real-time Patient Monitoring system, and Patient Tracking and Nurse Calling system.
The SPR projects were conducted with partnership between Ibrahim Obaidullah Hospital (IBHO) and the Faculty of Engineering at RKW. The SPR is innovation in process designed by exclusively Emirati undergraduate students and classified as first of its kind in UAE and Worldwide. Project KPI’s include enhancing Medical care services and Patient monitoring using cost effective approach.
The event was honored with the presence of senior management of the hospital including the Hospital Director, Dr. Yousef Altair, the Executive Director of RAK campuses, Dr. Yahya Al Ansaari, Dean of Academic Operations, Dr. Nathir Al Rawashdeh, Senior Manager of RKW Campus Support, Mrs. Maryam Al Hafeet, and the Division Chair of the Electronic Engineering Technology Program at RKW, Dr. Ahmed Khodary. The supervisors of the students’ project groups are Dr. Chandika Wavegedara and Eng. Asad Hindash also attended the event.
The students received high appreciation for their innovation and accomplishment in this unique project with emphasis on future collaborations by the IBHO Hospital Director, Dr. Yousef Altair and Executive Director of RAK Campuses, Dr. Yahya Al Ansaari.
