The HCT-Al Ain Women’s (AAW) Bachelor of Education students hosted 28 KG2 children from the Al Naema School to participate in a Math Day learning event on February 12, 2019 as part of the 2nd year B.Ed. students’ practical learning requirements.
The Year-2 B.Ed Early Childhood Education students spent weeks planning and preparing a number of engaging hands-on and interactive activities incorporating 21st century skills, such as creativity, collaboration, critical thinking communication and technology.
The AAW students incorporated two themes for Math Day. The first theme was an Emirati animated character named Hamdoon, and his adventure was going to Al Ain Zoo, which was also the Al Naema School’s learning theme.
The children enjoyed ten different activities, each more exciting than the other, and became engrossed in the tasks while learning essential Mathematics concepts of patterns, measurement, classifying, sorting and numbers.
Some of the activities included creating 2D and 3D shapes, classifying and adding animals into their habitat, measuring liquids and students’ heights on a chart, sorting environment objects and placing the results on a graph, and painting fish and making patterns.
Overall, the Year 2 B.Ed Early Childhood Education students and volunteers, together with the Al Naema students had a most enjoyable time during the fun and interactive Math day.
