In an effort to promote channels of creativity and expression of ideas through visual forms, the Applied Media Club from the HCT-Sharjah Women’s campus (SJW) came up with the idea of a project that is centered on giving a child in the Hospital an opportunity to make a “wish.”
The club’s philosophy of philanthropy is centered on an approach of giving back to the community for inspiring us in our design approach. From this ideology, ‘Project Wings’ surfaced to embrace children who have dreams and inspirations just like us.
The club members contacted local hospitals to work with us in fulfilling a child’s wish and the University Hospital Sharjah took up the club’s challenge. Applied media design students produced “wish” cards and visited the hospital to fill out the “wish” cards with the children who are current patients at the hospital. After the cards were filled out faculty, students and staff had the opportunity to adopt a card and fulfill the wish.
Project Wings successfully took flight on November 22, 2018 in the Applied Media Dome area and was attended by guests from the Hospital, Ms. Fatima Al Raeesi and Ms. Bshayer Al Tamimi, Dr. Ged Ryan, Sr. Manager, Academic Services and Advising, Dr. Tina Gates, Media Club Students and faculty and staff from Sharjah Women’s College.
“Our hope is to embrace a child and see a smile”– Amna Abdul Hakim, Year-3 student.
