The HCT-RAK Women’s campus’s (RKW) Engineering club is an inspiration and creation of the Engineering department, which is designed to familiarize students with Robotics Technology and Innovation Fundamentals, in an engaging and educational manner.
On November 13, 2018 the RKW students inaugurated their club with small ceremony at their new location in F Block. The event was graced by HCT senior management including Executive Director of RAK Campuses, Dr. Yahya Al Ansaari, Senior Manager of RKW Campus Support, Mrs. Maryam Al Hafeet, and Dean of Academic Operations, Dr. Nathir AL Rawashdeh.
The club plans to operate on Tuesdays from 12-2 pm, with fixable access and hours during the remaining weekdays. Currently, there are more than 20 students participating with high potential of doubling the number next school semester year. The club is led by Engineering program Chair, Dr. Ahmed Khodary and Engineering faculty, Asad Hindash. All club activities are supervised by HCT staff during club hours.
The RKW Engineering club is keen to provide students in a relaxed and work-at-your-own pace environment. Activities span over exploration, design, and assembly of electrical-mechanical devices that can sense, actuate, and interact with surroundings and possibly humans. Examples include LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3, Robotic Arms, Soldering kits, Mechanical Spiders, Mobile Robots, Drone applications, and 3D printing.
Moreover, students learn by doing how to program robots utilizing micro-controllers in order to influence certain control topology or guided navigation. Ultimately, the RKW Engineering club utilizes innovation practices to develop student’s awareness in applying Robotics technology into spectrum of applications, including medical assistance, training and therapy, education, industrial applications, environmental monitoring and cleanup, emergency response, and entertainment.
