AAM’s Business Chair Shares Academic Leadership Experience at 2nd Blended Teaching and Learning Symposium

2 weeks

Dr. Pedro Longart, Business Chair at the HCT-Al Ain Men’s campus (AAM), shared his knowledge of quality management, when he was a keynote speaker at the 2nd Blended Teaching and Learning Symposium, at the UAE University on 13 November 2018.

Dr. Longart participated in his role of System Wide Campus Team Leader for a Quality Management course – Quality Standards and Excellence Models, QMT 2103, where he leads an undergraduate course for all the campuses where the course is taught.

The course in this format is delivered for the very first time in the fall 2018 semester. The presentation had the aim to share the experience and to provide a stimulating debate about the design of this type of platform for successful blended teaching and learning efforts.

The topics of Quality Standards and Excellence models although interconnected are normally treated separately in academia. Dr. Longart was responsible for developing this quality management course “online”, also referred to as “course digitization”. He elaborated on the meaning of this term and how it relates to blended teaching and learning.

The presentation was about using the full capabilities of the Blackboard platform to develop a course through blended teaching and learning. He reflected on how he made use of the platform and what other capabilities are there that can be useful when designing instructional material for blended teaching and learning. He also discussed the potential metrics that can be used to find out the degree of success of the implementation, engagement of students and feedback from faculty.
