Five enterprising students from the HCT-RAK Women’s campus (RKW) have scooped the pool in the Poster Competition section of the Arabia CSR Forum 2018, held on October 2-3, 2018.

The Arabia CSR Network’s aim is to facilitate exchange of ideas and to forge lasting partnerships across sectors for an improved society based on UNGC’s ten principles for human rights, labor rights, the environment and anti-corruption.

The Sustainability Benchmark of the Arab Region, the Arabia CSR Awards, have grown and expanded its ambit considerably during the past decade. In all of the ten cycles, the Arabia CSR Awards has received close to 1,000 registered applications from over 800 organizations representing 31 industry sectors from 13 countries in three different languages (Arabic, English and French).

Shouq Saeed, Sara Salem, Shaikha Saeed, Mouza Saeed and Mahrah Mohammed got the first prize in the design of a poster for the topic ‘Utilising the SDGs to navigate uncertain times’ at the event.

Fareed Kaleem and Dr. Samia Kouki, CIS faculty members, supported, coached and encouraged the students, to participate in the event. Students presented three bright ideas about the use of new technologies to reach some of the 16 different Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The first presented idea “DeafSpace” was about the use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to translate the announcements of train or bus delays to the sign language. The second idea “Smart Plants Watering” addressed the use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology to monitor and save plants watering. The last idea “ Save my world”, is an application using Virtual Reality (VR) approaches to raise awareness children and teenagers about the consequences of wasting water, food, energy and natural resources.
