HCT’s “Children of Zayed -عيال زايد” Team Gear Up For Global Hybrid Electric Challenge

An inter-disciplinary team from the HCT-Sharjah Men’s (SJM) and Women’s (SJW) campuses was formed from dedicated Engineering and Applied Media faculty and students to combine their efforts and skills to showcase HCT innovation, as participants in the Global Hybrid Electric Challenge.

the team was named  “Children of Zayed -عيال زايد” .

The Challenge is a collegiate competition promoting education innovation, energy efficiency, and environmental consciousness, and was held in Al Ain, from November 6-8, 2018. the HCT team challenged other skilled university teams from UAE and Egypt.

The Students from SJM are Mohammad Abdulrahman Al Khalfani, Abdelrahman Abdelrahim Al Zarooni, Khalid Abdelrahman Alsuwaidi, Salim Ali Al Ali, Ammar Hussain Alblooshi, and Abdulla Salem Al Saadi (Mechanical Engineering), Nagat Ibrahim Sayed Mahmoud, Hind Abdulla Al Ali and Moza Ali Alali (Electronic Engineering).

The Applied Media students were Noor Elias Al Hafdhi, Fatima Badr Mushrbak, Bushra Attaullah Hamza, Amna Ahmad Al Hammadi, Raya Mohamed Almoudi and Salma Abdullah Mohammed.

The team was coached by Engineering faculty  Mr. Ayman Azmi Ramadan (SJM) as team manager, Mr. Kamal Abu Qaaud and Ms. Ehsan Jarrar (SJW) and  Applied Media faculty Ms. Susan De Guzman and Dr. Tina Gates (SJW).

The HCT synergy team members have brainstormed and generated innovative ideas about the optimization of the racing prototype and branding it. The team has adopted the logo “Children of Zayed -عيال زايد” inspired by the UAE National Theme “ The Year of Zayed”  . The tasks were divided accordingly based on each student’s major. The engineering team worked together to improve the performance of the stock hybrid electric racing prototype  raced last year by Team “ SA’AF” by replacing the LI-Ion battery bank with heavy duty Lead gel AGM battery bank and by fine tuning the electric drive controller programme and troubleshooting and replacing needful wiring and cabling.

The Applied Media team worked on designing the graphics of the car with care and consideration. Their brilliant graphic designs reflect the spirit of the team loyalty to the founding Father Sheikh Zayed in a splendid national body art work.  Their skills in creating and editing videos are remarkable.

The team are determined on winning the competition race by driving the car to the furthest range in both the electric mode and the hybrid mode. They are also focusing on attaining as much as rewards as possible too. There are also several other completion awards targeted by the team; which are which are: “Fastest Qualifying Time”, “Technical Innovation”, “Best Presentation”, “Sportsmanship” , “Team Safety”, “WISE female Engineer”, “Best Vehicle Graphic Design” , “Vehicle Workmanship”,  “Best Photo” and  “Best Video”.

The team’s racing car successfully passed the track-worthy technical inspection on the first day of the event.
