The UAV Club of the Aeronautical Engineering Technology program (AET) at the HCT-Al Ain Women’s campus (AAW) has hosted a highly successful “Start-of-Year” event on October 2, 2018.
The event was attended by about 50 students, 38 of whom were UAV-Club members. The event included an introductory presentation to familiarize new and existing members with the club goals and objectives. In addition, Eng. Youssef Matter, UAV Club Coordinator, discussed the events and activities that the club aims to run during this academic year. He also highlighted a number of field trips that will be organized by the club, such as a trip to Etihad Aviation Training and to STRATA.
The attendees got the chance to register for some of the local and international competitions, such as Drones for Good, Emirates Technology & Innovation Competition (ETIC), and the Design, Build and Fly (DBF) competition by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
Eng. Youssef Matter stated that participating in such competitions will definitely enhance the students’ hands-on skills and would be considered as great achievements to be added to their CVs. Furthermore, students will get a chance to develop new ideas in the Aeronautical Engineering field and convert these ideas into credible designs which will allow them to access the world of innovations.
“I was truly happy to see Aeronautical Engineering students being enthusiastic to participate in different competitions both national and international,” Youssef Matter said.
“I believe that with such excitement and commitment, AET students are going to raise the name of HCT and show that HCT students not only can compete, but they can also win,” he added.
As a result of the presentation, and the prospect of field trips and competitions, AAW students who attended the event, and were not members of the UAV Club, decided to join the club as they found it really interesting and they wanted to take part in its activities and competitions.
