HCT female students showcased their innovative skills when the won four out of six awards on offer at the Seeds for the Future 2018 Competition, the results of which were announced during the GITEX Technology Week at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
The Seeds for the Future 2018 Competition was organized by Huawei, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) and the ICT Fund.
Dr. Abdullatif Al Shamsi, HCT President & CEO, attended the awards ceremony and congratulated the HCT winners from the Abu Dhabi, Al Dhafra, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah colleges.
Dr al Shamsi said that the students’ winning ideas and innovative projects reflect the quality of applied education offered at HCT, which is based on innovation, and which aims to find effective solutions for many challenges confronting industry and societal issues.
The four winning student projects were:
- Automated control system for gas and smoke emissions – Al Dhafra campuses
- Multi-use vest for firemen’s safety – Ras Al Khaimah Women’s campus
- Power generation by magnet – Abu Dhabi Women’s campus
- Medicine barcode reader – Fujairah Women’s campus
The automated control system for gas and smoke emissions project, created by Electronical Engineering students from the HCT-Al Dhafra campuses Sara Sanad Al Mazrouei, Khawla Mohammed Al Hammadi, and Mouza Saif Al Mansouri, won second place, and AED 75,000. Through early detection of smoke and toxic gases, this system prevents fires caused by air conditioners; thus protecting lives and property.
The multi-use vest for firemen safety project, craeted by Electronical Engineering students at the HCT-Ras Al Khaimah Women’s campus Mariam Al Hammadi, Nawal Al Awadi, Amal Al Hammadi, Mariam Al Zaabi and Sara Al Naqbi, won third place, and AED 50,000. This vest has sensors to alert firemen in cases of obstacles, high temperatures or toxic gases, as well as having communication technology that enables firemen to communicate with the Emergency Services centre and crew.
The power generation by magnet project, created by Lulwa Ali Al Marzouqi from the HCT-Abu Dhabi Women’s campus, won fourth place, and AED 25,000. This project uses the repelling force of magnets in power generation, which allows for the use of clean power.
The medicine barcode reader project, created by Muna Rashed and Manal Al Danhani from the HCT-Fujairah Women’s campus, won sixth place, and AED 25,000. This application enables users to read medical information through the barcode on the medicine or prescription box.
