The Expo 2020 Dubai: University Innovation Programme was held at the HCT-Al Ain Women’s campus (AAW) on Wednesday, October 3, attended by 160 students.
The purpose of the program is to engage university students, cultivate an innovation mindset, and reward student-led innovative projects.
In line with Expo Live’s belief that innovation can come from anywhere to everyone, and consistent with Expo 2020 theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, the program aims to incentivize creative thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration between university students in order to solve a problem worth solving.
The program also includes a competition portion that rewards students with grants of up to AED 50,000 for advancing the research and development of innovative ideas that are relevant to the UAE and our region. The objective is to reward promising conceptual solutions that can be realized and prototyped.
During its pilot phase, Expo Live received applications from more than 1,000 students attending over 40 universities across the UAE.
More than 30 teams of students were selected to pitch their ideas to an Evaluation Committee. In the end, the committee selected 19 teams as “Expo Live Young Innovators” winners.
