A group of 20, Level-6 IT Security students from the HCT-Sharjah Women’s campus (SJW) got to boot-up on the latest cyber security challenges facing our hyper-connected world, when they attended three conferences – the Future Blockchain Summit, GISEC and IoT 2018 – in Dubai on May 2 & 3, 2018.
The students attended several keynote addresses from International expert speakers who presented several emerging security innovations and technologies.
The need to address cyber security challenges has become extremely important as we move towards an economy powered by Blockchain connectivity, Big Data and the Internet of Things. Governments, large enterprises, and even start-ups can no longer invest in obsolete methods of detection and defense and need to understand how cyber security impacts their strategy and long-term sustainability.
CIS faculty member, Nedaa Al Barghuthi commented that it was an excellent opportunity for the students to attend these international conferences, as it brought together industries, government and global experts to talk about these trending topics.
CIS Student Fatima said that these conferences were excellent opportunities for students as it helped to increase their knowledge of real-world security issues, particularly the security challenges within the Gulf region as they plan to become Smart Cities.
Another CIS Student Mariam, added: “The Blockchain event was a great experience for me as it is the first time to happen here in Dubai. I was very excited and I gained a lot of knowledge in my major field. I hope they arrange it every year.”
