AAW’s AET Students Navigate History of UAVs with Lockheed Martin Guest Lecturer

2 years

The Aeronautical Engineering Technology (AET) students at the HCT-Al Ain Women’s campus (AAW) were treated to a fascinating history lesson when the campus hosted Mr. Shawn Racz, Manager of the UAE Center for Innovation & Security Solutions (CISS) at Lockheed Martin Corporation, as a guest speaker on May 6, 2018.

Mr. Racz delivered a seminar entitled “The History and Innovation of Unmanned Systems—Influences on the Aerospace Industry and Future Opportunities” to a group of senior AET students and faculty members.

The interactive seminar was presented in two parts – firstly, Mr. Racz outlined the specific history of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), starting as early as 1896 through to their evolved use today. Secondly, he explained the opportunities for growth in our economies since the promise of unmanned systems or remotely operated vehicles is far reaching.

During the session Mr. Racz highlighted that due to UAV systems, enabled by the ever-increasing capability of communications and controls technology, the effects on our lives have been profound.

At the end of the seminar the students expressed their excitement and interest in the topics by exchanging their thoughts with Mr. Racz and by asking him many questions about the latest developments in the UAV systems and payloads.

Dr. Feras Darwish, AAW AET Program Chair, thanked Mr. Racz for presenting a very useful seminar and presented him a certificate of appreciation for his great efforts.
