DBW Instills Desire to Help Others with Digital Volunteer Fair

8 months

In the presence of Her Excellency Azza Bin Suliman, member of Federal National Council, the HCT-Dubai Women’s campus (DBW) organized its Digital Volunteer Fair from February 20-27, 2018, under the theme of ‘Spirit of Giving’.

With over 50 organizations participating, the Digital Volunteer Fair aimed to instill a desire and eagerness for volunteering among students, and to encourage them to perceive volunteering as a national requirement. It also facilitated volunteering opportunities in different fields for the students, who are required to complete the 100 volunteering hours as a graduation requirement.

The online platform enables students to register their volunteering choices throughout the academic year, whereby they have the ease of registering and participating in various opportunities without needing to physically visit the event venue or host.

While acknowledging the participating companies, Dr. Tarifa Al Zaabi, DBW Director, welcomed Her Excellency Azza Bin Suliman, students, faculty and staff, advising students to visit the online platform to learn more about the opportunities.

“We launched the DBW Digital Volunteer Fair in 2015, and I am proud of how engaged our students are in using this platform to take up opportunities offered by the various organizations. The online platform was launched for the ease of students applying for various volunteer opportunities which is a virtual attendance of the event,” Dr. Tarifa said.

Her Excellency Azza Bin Suliman also addressed the attendees elaborating the importance of giving back to the society through volunteering. She shared her experiences to encourage students.

The event featured a volunteer FAQ ‘Majlis’, where Mariam Khamis, Student Volunteer Officer, oriented students on the code of conduct for the Volunteer Programme, which imparts the ethics of honesty and creditability of volunteering.  They were also guided by current student volunteers on how to register their volunteering choices.
