The HCT-Dubai Women’s campus (DBW) marked International Cancer Awareness Day on February 4, 2018, in collaboration with Dubai Health Authority (DHA), by organizing a thyroid scan for the DBW community.
The event aimed at educating the community of early detection of cancer, which may result in a higher percentages of total recoveries. Students from the Health Sciences’ Pharmacy major also spoke to their peers in order to spread awareness of the importance of healthy habits and healthy eating, in preventing cancer.
Due to the great advocacy by staff and students, a total of 32 scans were performed on campus, of which, four detected abnormal lesions. These students and faculty were advised to visit their doctors for further diagnosis and treatment.
Health Sciences students, Aysha Subaih and Sara Qambar, said:“We are proud to be part of this campaign where we serve our country in promoting healthy habits and consequently lowering risk of cancer and other chronic conditions.”
Hind Binjaffar, Health Sciences faculty, shared her insights, saying: “It gives us pleasure to enhance industrial partnerships and team work among the health science team and students, where the acquired knowledge is practised and shared with our community.”
