Applied Media student, Amira Al Zarooni, from the HCT-Sharjah Women’s campus (SJW) has shown her creative mettle when she was won the Design Commission 2018 Award at the TOTAL Design Commission Award ceremony, for her design ‘Jood Volunteer Card’.
The award was presented to a stunned Amira In the presence of Paolo Gentiloni, Italian Prime Minister, H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Tolerance, and Hatem Nuseibeh, President of ‘Total UAE’, on March 11, at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi.
Amira’s Jood Volunteering Program is an innovative volunteering scheme that allows organizations to assign different responsibilities according to the experience of the volunteers, which is reflected in a ‘Jood Volunteer Card’. The program encourages and supports volunteers to contribute to their society, while establishing a dedicated network of volunteers, organizations and volunteering entities. Amira’s winning work will be on display at Emirates Palace throughout the Abu Dhabi Festival 2018.
Amira was thrilled with the award, stating: “It was a great day when I heard the news that I was the winner of the TOTAL Design commission award! I would like to express my gratitude to ADMAF for selecting my design as the Best Design of the TOTAL competition, with special thanks to H.E Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, and Hatem Nuseibeh, President of ‘Total UAE’ for presenting me with the award. I would also like to thank the Abu Dhabi Culture and Arts group, Huda Kanu, the Founder of ADMAF and the Higher Colleges of Technology for being instrumental in bestowing upon me this honor.”
Established in 2014, the competition organized by Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) to celebrate outstanding innovation, provides a launch-pad for emerging Emirati designers and architects across the UAE and is open for applicants between 18 and 35 years. Recognizing outstanding innovation and achievement by young Emiratis in the fields of design and architecture, the award shines a light on the country’s creative young talent across interior design, industrial design, graphic design, and architecture.
