An HCT-Abu Dhabi Women’s campus (ADW) Health Sciences faculty member has received a prestigious award at the Venus International Women Awards (VIWA), for her research relating to multi-drug resistant bacteria.

Dr. Erin Lim was conferred the Young Woman in Health and Medical Sciences Award (Biotechnology category), at a VIWA ceremony in Chennai, India on March 3, 2018, held in conjunction with the 3rd Annual Women’s Meet.

The award was in recognition of Dr Lim’s research carried out in elucidation of mechanisms involved in synergistic interactions between antibiotics and natural products against multi-drug resistant bacteria, the eradication of which pose an ominous challenge in hospital settings.

Dr. Lim has published a book chapter and numerous papers in this area, where she has acted as principal investigator in a Malaysian national-level grant.

Dr. Lim said she was extremely grateful for the continuous support from the HCT and Departmental Chair. She hopes her work will support discovery of therapeutics in the clinical setting and assist in the combat against the burden of antibiotic resistance.
