Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’allah, the ruler and head of the state of Umm al-Quwain Emirate, the UAE Innovation Month kicked off on Monday, February 19, 2018, in the emirate.
The nationwide celebration, running throughout February, aims to promote culture of innovation through competitions, exhibitions and other activities.
A team of Engineering students from the HCT-Sharjah Women’s campus (SJW) contributed its share to the month, by presenting its “Smart Firefighter” project, which was developed by SJW students Maythaa Khalfan, Mariam Safar, Hajar Alzarooni, under the supervision of Mr Kamal Abuqaaud.
The project was fully funded by the Umm al-Quwain Civil Defense and is designed for detecting, locating and suppressing fires, thereby reducing the risk of hazards. It’s primary aim is to tackle fires that are too dangerous for firemen.
The system works whereby a fireman can use an application on his mobile phone to access the controller of the “Smart Firefighter” by controlling the firefighter remotely and activating a life streaming camera connected to the Civil Defense operation room.
It was a moment of great pride for the three students, and mentor Kamal Abuqaaud, when they met HH Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’allah on February 19, 2018, who acknowledged the students’ project “Smart Firefighter”. HH. Sheikh Saud praised the efforts of the students who worked tirelessly on the project and asserted that their achievement should inspire others to succeed.
