Faculty, staff and students of the HCT-Ras Al Khaimah campuses showed their community spirit by volunteering to host a water station at the 12th RAK Half Marathon, which was held on February 9, 2018.
The HCT-RAK Campuses’ Water Station team showed true commitment by arriving at 6am in order to set up the water tables, decorate the area, and hand out water bottles.
The students who took part for the first time, proudly represented the RAK campuses shared the spirit of the event by supporting the many competitors. They were truly proud to be part of this event and represent HCT.
Over 2500 runners participated in an event that ranks among the fastest half-marathons in the world, and RAK colleges was represented by more than 20 participants.
Five HCT-RAK Men’s campus (RKM) students participated in the marathon to great success, with four of them forming the Iron Men Relay Team. RKM graduate, Abdulrahman Almansoori performed well in his first-ever individual 21 km, finishing in just over two hours. Meanwhile, the RAK Rock Runners faculty relay team topped all RAK campuses’ teams and finished 8th among all teams with an amazing time of 1:40:44.
Three faculty teams participated in the event, along with three faculty individual runners, among whom was Tahreer Alnaqbi. Tahreer’s performance was the most compelling story of this year’s race, as she completed her first half marathon and became the first Emirati female from the HCT-RAK campuses to do so. In fact, she finished 7th among all Emirati females in the event with a time of 2:20:22, and showed excellent potential for this race in the future.
“I used to participate in short races of 4 km but had never had such an experience as running a half-marathon of 21 km. Completing this challenge was a great personal achievement and glorious moment, and I encourage all girls to use their energy to rise to such challenges,” Tahreer said.
With so many competitors, together with the HCT water station at the marathon again this year, the RAK Half-Marathon continues to have a special place in the hearts of the HCT RAK campuses’ students, staff and faculty. It continues to be a great community event for HCT, encouraging students toward fitness and healthy competition.
