The Fall semester the HCT-Sharjah Men’s (SJM) Library was the place to be for book lovers, as it hosted a month-long Book Fair.
Textbooks covering Business, CIS, Engineering, and Foundations/IELTS were offered at reasonable prices, proving to be very popular with students, faculty, and staff, as about 250 books were sold.
The Book Fair was set up in the SJM Library, and Dr. Nadia Alhasani, Dean Academic Operations, visited the display and purchased a selection of books on the opening day.
The Book Fair featured different disciplines every two weeks so that faculty know the best time to visit the fair and purchase books in their subject area.
The SJM Library also participated in the SJM Social Club’s Garage Sale on October 31. This event was held near the cafeteria, with tables selling food, anime, t-shirts, houseplants, and other items in a casual souk-like setting. The Book Fair was a popular table, and more textbooks were sold.
Some students purchased books that will help them in their current program coursework, while other selected items to give as gifts. One staff member purchased IELTS books as a gift for one of the campus Security staff who is studying for the IELTS exam.
Jane Barnwell, SJM Librarian, said: “The Book Fair is a great opportunity to acquire low-cost, high quality textbooks that can serve as support materials for our students, and as handy references for faculty.”
