“Food, glorious foo” was the order of the day as the HCT-Sharjah Men’s campus (SJM) hosted the second Celebration of World Food Day on October 16, 2017.
Dr. Abdullatif Al Shamsi, HCT Vice Chancellor, and distinguished alumni joined Dr. Abdullah Al Suwaiji, SJM Director, to open the festival which was organized by the SJM Ligma Khafifa cooking club.
Maysa Hammoudeh, club president, explained that students came up with the idea of cooking delicious dishes from around the world, and donating the collected money to The Big Heart Foundation. In total, AED 2200 was raised for the foundation.
The number of student club members has increased to around 33 and on the day students worked as a team to offer dishes from 15 countries to the guests.
Dr. Abdullah Al Suwaiji, SJM Director, commented: “I am pleased to see our young Emirati men exploring different avenues to demonstrate their talents in various skills, and I’m proud of their enthusiasm to give back to the society.“ The alumni who attended were presented with a gift box as a token of appreciation.
SJM student Abdulaziz Hassooni commented:” I am a new member to the club and this is the first event I have participated in. The event was more than amazing; there was an outstanding team spirit. I am looking forward to the next events.”
The event was concluded on a high note with a lucky prize draw which rewarded two students and a faculty member with a gift box containing culinary materials.
