HCT-Fujairah Men’s campus (FJM) students exhibit their innovative and creative business ideas at the campus’s Innovation & Entrepreneurship Challenge.
As part of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship course and under the theme “We are shaping the future…” 11 teams from the Engineering and IT departments participated in the challenge. Students worked very hard to present their prototype ideas and all were vying to be placed first.
The vibrant display of innovative ideas saw a very high standard of entries, and the competition was judged by Dr. Adel Zairi and Dr. Fesmi Majeed which eventually resulted in 4 teams being placed in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Teams were judged on a range of criteria, such as the strength of their pitch, idea novelty and commercial viability, among others.
In 1st place was the ‘Geothermal Energy Supply System, 2nd place was awarded to the ‘Geno Coffee Machine’ and 3rd place was shared by the ‘Blind Stick’ and the ‘Sun Tracker’.
The event was attended by HCT-Fujairah campuses’ Director Ms. Safia AlRaqbani, staff, faculty and FJM students who thoroughly enjoyed supporting their peers and voting for their preferred team. The judges and visitors were impressed with the professionalism of the pitches in the annual event and look forward to future showcases.
“I enjoyed the evolution of my students’ ideas to a prototype. It is great to see them thinking outside the box. Teaching students the concepts of innovation and entrepreneurship does not necessarily turn every one of them into a business man or woman but it helps them learn how to turn ideas into actions that could solve a problem or fill a gap,” Suhair Alwahabi, Course Lecturer and event organizer, said.
