ADM’s Captivating Applied Media Open Day Showcases Students’ Creativity

12 months

The HCT-Abu Dhabi Men’s campus’s (ADM) Applied Media Open day, the flagship student show with its plethora of activities, was a massive hit, showcasing student talent, while giving students great insights into their future careers.

Inaugurated by Eng. Abdu Rahman Al Jahoushi, ADM Director, the day opened with screening of short videos and closed with a fun-filled Arabic song performance.

Congratulating all involved on the success of the day, the Director urged the students to grab such opportunities to give their products a wider reach. “Applied Media Open day acts as a platform for the students to showcase their media products to a wider audience and as an opportunity to seek constructive feedback from industry professionals,” he said.

Applied Media students’ creativity was at display by way of professionally laid out photography and graphics exhibitions. This was followed by an informative panel discussion on the topic of “Skills and competencies required in a Media Graduate”.

The panel members included Amira Almashhrawy, Abu Dhabi TV Presenter, who spoke about the developing skills for TV presentation, while Mohamed Salem Aljneibi, an ADM alumni and an Abu Dhabi Media TV and Radio Presenter, stressed on having confidence and knowledge on a wide range of subjects.

Another participant, Shahad Alabdouli, Engineer, Poet and TV Presenter, discussed the importance of having a command of language and diction in media presentation. Tyeb Albarri, Director at AB Creative AC, dwelt on how she looks for skills like self-initiative and ability work against deadlines as prime conditions when hiring a media graduate. Finally Lama Zalat, Senior Communications Manager, Cleveland Clinic, Abu Dhabi, concluded that timely communications, out-of-the-box thinking and an ability to work with a multicultural workforce were her pick for the top skills.

Another highlight of the day was an interactive competition entitled Who wants to be a Presenter? which kept the audience hooked. In the competition, media students presented live news from the ADM TV studio. The news presentation was judged by a panel of judges, mostly TV presenters themselves.

Taking a leaf out of the success of an earlier edition, the Applied Media Open Day (Fall semester edition) was organized under the guidance of Divisional Chair, Dr. Adil Hussain, and driven by Rizwan Wadood, Applied Media Program Coordinator, with close support by faculty members Dr. Awwad Abu Zaineh, Leo Wong, Reynante Sanchez and Zakaia Cvitanovich.
