DBW Promotes Healthy Living on Campus

3 years

With the arrival of the new academic year, the HCT-Dubai Women’s (DBW) campus’s Sports and Fitness Center welcomed the new students by opening their doors with a Gym Orientation session.

With more than 100 students attending, the event aimed to promote health and fitness by encouraging students to participate in regular physical activities.

Prior to the various sports activities organized on the day, Foundations students were enlightened about a number of health related issues, including the importance of physical activity, the weekly sports activities, the various health awareness campaigns offered, how to safely use gym equipment, and the direct link between exercise and maintaining a better GPA and a better quality of life.

DBW Sports Officer, Alina Radut said: “We want our students to leave the fitness classes, the gym and sports activities having fun and having learned enough about themselves physically to go on to have healthy lives. I want them to be able to make positive lifestyle choices that will give them the opportunity to enjoy being active.”

“Physical fitness is a discipline; students must choose their own path. At DBW, we want to equip students with the experiences and information that will help them make wise choices. We want students to feel empowered to believe that they can make a difference, and that contributing to the community and helping others makes the world a better place,” she added.

“It is important for students to take away from my instruction the love of fitness and develop the discipline to live a healthy and long life. Physical activity is for everyone, is a great way to feel better, boost your health and have fun. The benefits of exercise are hard to ignore. Being physically active can lead you to a healthier and happier life” Alina said.

DBW Foundations student, Nouf Alsuwaidi commented: “Using the Body Composition Analyzer provides fast in-depth information of our health and fitness levels. Based on this, our gym instructor guides us with personalized fitness and meal plans to optimize our health during our college life.”

To adapt to a healthy lifestyle, students are advised to undertake the following activities:

  • Establish a routine
  • Get enough sleep
  • Eat regular meals
  • Learn to manage the stressors of college life and
  • Build at least 30 minutes of physical exercise in their daily routines, which is possible through the campus’s various sports clubs
