10 months

The exciting opportunities of working with animals and the tourism sector came to the HCT-Al Ain Women’s campus (AAW) when the Al Ain Zoo visited the Al Ain Women’s campus (AAW) as part of HCT’s Employer on Campus initiative.

Al Ain Zoo was represented by many employees, who included an alumna from the AAW IT department, Yasmeena Al Habshi who is now a core member of the Al Ain Zoo Human Resource team. Yasmeena spoke in detail about the career opportunities available to the students in terms of work placements and full time employment.

Representatives from different departments of Al Ain Zoo also spoke about the career options available in all the functions of Al Ain Zoo. Fatima Al Afari, another AAW graduate from the Education Department, was elated to see her teacher Sharon Gilbert and the alumna shared with the students the benefits she derived from completing her Classroom Assistant Diploma, especially when it came to the transferable skills that were imbued in her persona during those years in the college.

The future plans of the organization were also shared with the audience, which presented a plethora of opportunities to the students in terms of learning and building their careers.

A live bird display was undoubtedly the major highlight as the Zoo’s first Emirati female bird handler, Jawaher Al Shamsi interacted with the AAW students, informing them about the diverse and challenging career opportunities in a perfect working environment.

The AAW staff and students were happy to see Saeed Al Zaibi handling the beautiful birds with a professional touch, which motivated the students to ask questions about careers in Al Ain Zoo.

The grand success of the event was evident from a huge participation of students as the turnout was more than 100 attendees, with many of the students signing up for volunteering and employment opportunities.

The Al Ain Zoo Human Resources team, led by Juma Khalifa Al Kaabi, HR Manager, was delighted with the event and invited AAW to participate in its forthcoming Zoo Day.
