Ministry of Health nurses were given the opportunity to be trained as trainers of HCT nursing students when they undertook an interactive preceptorship program, created and facilitated by HCT- Fujairah Women’s campus (FJW) nursing faculty.
The primary purpose was to train the nurses from Ministry of Health hospitals and prepare them to be preceptors for the student nurses during their clinical placements. This training was designed to meet the industry feedback from previous semesters and to bridge the gap between theory and practice in nursing sciences.
Twenty-six nurses from Fujairah and Kalba MOH hospitals were chosen for the preceptor training and represented the key clinical areas of medical, surgical, maternity, paediatric, critical care and emergency departments. The HCT students will undertake clinical placements in each of these departments, as part of their studies.
This program will prepare participants to undertake a mentoring role during the students’ practice period. This will explore the learning needs of each student through ensuring an appropriate learning environment and engaging the learner in meaningful reflection in practice.
The training program was awarded six CPD credit accreditation from the MOHAP, UAE and recognized to be vital to developing industry partnerships.
