The HCT-Dubai Women’s campus (DBW) marked the start of the new academic year with interactive orientation sessions for more than 400 new students and their parents.
The students were engaged in a two day-long orientation on August 14 & 15, where they were warmly welcomed by DBW management, staff, faculty and current students. The orientation was aimed at helping the new students understand the HCT culture and create a smooth transition from school to university life. It featured awareness lectures about several topics, mainly the key principles and procedures followed by HCT.
Dr. Tarifa Al Zaabi, DBW Director, welcomed parents and students in her opening address, stressing the role students play in the future of the country. “Students need to find a balance with academic and extracurricular activities to build their leadership skills,” she said.
“At DBW, we provide new students with the tools you need to transfer to the higher learning stage that enables you to achieve your academic and career goals. It is important to use the time spent at college to take part in extracurricular and co-curricular activities, which is a source of fun, but also helps you gain practical skills outside the classroom,” Dr. Tarifa added.
Academic Programme Chairs and the college’s Service Departments enlightened students about the programmes and majors offered for 2017-18, as well as introducing them to the wide range of services provided on campus.
Students were then led by current Student Council members and ‘Spirit of Giving’ Volunteers on a college tour to experience the various campus services and to meet key administrators, faculty and staff members.
The new students were also engaged in a series of fun activities that cultivated the spirit of team work and competitiveness.
