Lung Cancer continues to be one of the most common cancer worldwide, claiming more lives yearly than breast, colon and prostate cancer combined.

It is estimated than lung cancer accounts for nearly one in five cancer deaths globally. In 2012 there were 1.8 million newly diagnosed cases of lung cancer alone.

The HCT-Al Ain Men’s campus (AAM) joined the global awareness of this disease by organizing its own World Lung Cancer Day event on Aug 1 at the campus. The information session aimed to promote health awareness among staff by creating an environment which enhances the values of teamwork, leadership and life-long health and well-being.

The campus’s Health and Safety Committee and the AAM Student Services team cooperated to organize the World Lung Cancer 2017 campaign, which looked to improve awareness of symptoms, screening option, and lesser known risk factors for lung cancer.

Fifteen staff and faculty members attended the session which provided the main five causes, the different types of primary lung cancer and the way to reduce exposure to the causes of this disease.

Awareness leaflets were distributed to the audience and the highly interesting and informative information session concluded with a Q &A session with the audience.
