The start of Semester 2 saw the start of ‘Biggest Loser: Part 2’ at Sharjah Women’s campus (SJW), where many students joined in as they had set New Year’s resolutions and personal goals to accomplish.
This semester there were more than 80 female students who participated. To start with, they all had a full body assessment and similar assessments took place periodically after that to keep track of their progress.
All participants were encouraged to join the full health and fitness program which included practical and theoretical sessions to talk about nutrition and the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. The program was aimed at students wanting to lose weight, as well as those keen to gain muscle mass or to shape and tone their bodies.
To keep motivation levels high, the sports team added new fitness classes which enhanced the results and stepped up the challenge from ‘Biggest Loser: Part 1’. Students tried new classes such as swimming, spinning, GAQ attack (glutes, abs, quadriceps) plus many more.
The fitness classes were not only for the students on the program but for everyone and they were attended by other students, faculty and staff.
Hamda Khaled, a Nursing student who joined the program, stated that she joined ‘Biggest Loser’ not to lose weight but to change her lifestyle in a motivating environment under the supervision of experienced trainers. She ended up with greater results than expected and changed inside and out:
“Even my personality and the way I think changed thanks to the coaches, Danah and Hannah. Sometimes they were tough but this pushed me to achieve my goals (‘tough love’). I recommend this program to everybody,” she said.
Maitha Almheiri, the winner of ‘Biggest Loser: Part 2’, said she was happy to win. ” I lost 11 kilos and the most important thing is that I achieved my goals in terms of weight loss and changed my lifestyle. I am proud to have participated in the program and I will definitely continue,” she said.
Maitha thanked the coaches for the variety of exercises in their classes and for their continuous support.
Prizes were given to the three students who lost the most weight overall. Maitha lost 11 kilos in 16 weeks and won a AED 350 voucher valid at any City Centre mall. Second place lost seven kilos in 16 weeks and won a AED 250 voucher. Third place and a AED 200 voucher went to a student for her outstanding dedication to a healthy lifestyle and overall body composition change.
To up the ante and keep the healthy lifestyle moving forward the SJW sports team will be starting a new fitness challenge, ‘Miss Fitness 2018’. This will start from September 2017 and finish in April 2018.
