Students from the LSH2903 Summer 1 course at the Al Ain Women’s campus (AAW) have reached out to workers with a worthy community support activity during the holy month of Ramadan.
The activity involved preparing, packing and giving out an Iftar meal to random workers, and packing up food parcels for the UAE Red Crescent.
The students also participated in the Ramadan Amman national campaign which is an initiative aimed at preserving the lives of fasting people while driving during the pre-Iftar period. The campaign encourages drivers to limit their speed and reduce accidents caused as people hurry to catch up with Iftar, by distributing meals to drivers in the streets and at major traffic intersections at the time of the Maghrib prayer throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
Zainab Al Hussaini, Faculty in the General Studies division, commented: “Raising such initiatives in the holy month of Ramadan cultivates strong values in the students and helps those in need as well as participating and supporting national campaigns such as the Ramadan Amman campaign.”
Shamma Al Neyadi, a student in the Education department, added: “It was a wonderful experience to pack those Iftar meals and distribute them and I was amazed by the team work, collaboration and efforts of my college friends to help those in need. We managed to pack a large number of boxes containing Iftar meals and the end result was really satisfying.”
