The Health and Safety Committee at the Al Ain Men’s campus (AAM) spearheaded a series of laboratory tours for all Foundations Students at the campus.
This aimed to promote safety awareness in the laboratories as well as encourage future users to be inspired as they visit each laboratories on campus. Special machines and equipment can be found in each laboratory visited including the Health Sciences (VET), Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics), and CIS workrooms.
The series of laboratories tours ran for three days, from May 28-30 and invited all Foundations Students to come and experience first-hand what happens in each laboratory showcasing how wearing proper protective gear, reading warning signs, and being aware of safety measures is important in each work area, preventing accidents and injuries.
Dr. Yahya Al Ansaari, AAM DIrector, said that “it is important for our students at this level to be familiar with health and safety. Also, students will be familiar with different majors”.
Foundations Level 2 Student, Ali Salem Alshamsi, found the laboratory tours interesting and added, “I became more interested in choosing a course in Electronics when I saw the lab.”
Another student, Sultan Khalifa Al Alawi, who hopes to be a CIS student in the future declared, “After seeing the machines and equipment in the labs, I now realize that safety is a serious matter.”
Health and Safety activities will continue to be offered on campus and more laboratory tours will be available in the coming academic year.
In addition to the Health and Safety orientation sessions, Dr. Yahya, who fully supports the HSE Committee’s efforts on campus, inspired the team to come up with more innovative ways to promote health and safety awareness at AAM.
