Maryam Khalid Obaid, a graduate of the Animation programme (January 2017) at the HCT-Sharjah Women’s campus was awarded the Twofour54 Best Emerging Emirati Filmmaker Award at the 8th Zayed University Middle East Film Festival (ZUMEFF), held recently in Dubai.
Maryam’s short animated film, “Finding Myself”, was one of the four finalists in the Animation category and submissions were accepted from across the Middle East and Northern Africa, along with students of Middle Eastern origin who were studying abroad, as long as the films were made by students at universities, colleges and higher learning institutions in the past 18 months.
Maryam’s piece tells the story of a boy trying to find himself, and she was very excited with the award and is thankful to Twofour54 for their encouragement.
Faculty mentor, Bilal Ahmad, Program Chair, Dr. Tina Gates and the Applied Communications team members take this opportunity to congratulate Maryam on her achievement and wish her all the very best for her future endeavours.
ZUMEFF is a non-profit event funded by Zayed University and its sponsoring partner and supporters. It was established in 2010 as a graduation project by AlYazyah Al Falasi, Reema Majed and Faculty Director Alia Yunis, with the aim to showcase students’ films and encourage young filmmakers in the region. It has since grown to involve 16 Middle East countries and more than 40 universities and higher learning institutions.
