Terms such as ‘absolute pin’, ‘advanced pawn’, or ‘back-rate mate’ may be alien to the average person, but to a group of HCT-Dubai Men’s campus (DBM) students they are commonplace.
Chess-playing DBM students Abdulla Ali, Fahad Alzarooni and Salman Tarek showed their superior knowledge of chess manoeuvres and tactics by scoring full marks to win the Higher Education Sports Federation (HESF) Intercollegiate Chess Championship of 2017.
In doing so the team won all their matches against stiff opposition from five other universities across the UAE, at the University of Sharjah on April 10. The prestigious annual chess meet saw a high level of competition among the top teams with the DBM team triumphing and paving their way to the title.
The University of Ras Al Khaimah came in second and Zayed University Abu Dhabi placed third.
The DBM community congratulates the team for their wonderful efforts and showcase of great chess playing.
