Ruwais Women’s Students Give Back with Beach Cleaning Campaign

7 months

In recognition of the declaration by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, that 2017 is the Year of Giving, The HCT-Ruwais Women’s campus (RWW) Student Council has initiated two community-oriented campaigns to give back to society.

The council’s January initiative was a donation campaign, in association with Red Crescent, to collect donations, ranging from dried food, clothes, shoes, to blankets, for those in need.

The students’ February initiative has been a Local Beach Cleaning campaign that took place at the Jabal Al Dhanna Beach. This campaign encouraged students to participate in volunteering work, serve the community, and raise awareness on keeping local beaches free of waste.

The participating students met at the college on the morning February 23, under the coordination of Student Council President Ayisha AlHashmi. The weather was cloudy and cool, which was perfect for this endeavour.

All participating students, together with faculty member Abdelraheem Minalla, have worked together and managed to clean the beach as much as they could in a period of three hours.

The volunteers were highly appraised by the community, which motivated the students to work even more and make it a highly successful campaign.

The RWW Student Council members are hoping to deliver more campaigns throughout 2017, and give back to their local community.
