Fun, fitness and physicality were the order of the day as the HCT-Al Ain Women’s campus’s (AAW) Student Services and Sports Departments joined forces to host a sports day on March 15.
The AAW’s annual Sports Day Celebration is for all students, faculty and staff where every individual has the opportunity to participate in every activity.
The focus of the day ranges from a general celebration and appreciation of physical activities and cooperation through games, to highlighting activities that assist better and healthier lifestyles.
Moreover, the event highlights the importance of taking care of oneself in the area of fitness, team-building, health and well-being through different games. Ultimately, the main purpose is to enjoy being part of the campus community, where faculty, staff and students can enjoy activities together.
The myriad of activities on offer throughout the day were:
- Gymkhana – a circuit with a variety of exercises made to improve and test physical skills and also just to have fun.
- Single Wipe Out – this activity has a capacity up to 6 players with a spinning boom arm, which tries knock players down; the winner is the last one standing.
- Bungee Basketball
- Tug of War
- Mini Football
- Basketball Shooter
- Ping Pong/Table Tennis
- Mini golf
- Tennis Racket Race
- Giant Volley
- Food Station, based on healthy food
- Sport Knowledge Station: with the collaboration of The AAW Library and the General Studies department collaborated to enable students to learn more about sport.
Mercedes Cebrian, AAW Sports Coordinator, said: “What I enjoyed most on Sports Day was the interaction between students, faculty and staff since the purpose of the event itself was to build better student-faculty-staff relationships; the most crucial connection within a college community.”
Bushra Awadh, AAW Business student and a member of the AAW volley ball team, said: “I really have enjoyed participating in organizing the sports day as well as being active in the sports activities. Everyone was active and having fun and my favorite game was Single Wipe Out.”
