HCT-Fujairah Women’s campus (FJW) Foundations student Amina Al Hosani has shown her potential as a future educator after she was named the overall winner of the campus’s 1st Annual Junior Teacher Contest, organized by the Division of Education.
As an outreach strategy, this event was an eye opener for the Foundations students who considered the possibilities of choosing teaching as a career.
Khadeejah Al Kaabi, one of the competition contestants, has already made up her mind about enrolling on the B:Ed programme, while Masouma Mohammed, a final-year B.Ed student who mentored Khadijah, said “As Khadijah’s mentor, I am proud of her courage to come out of her comfort zone so beautifully like a little butterfly comes out of its cocoon and entering the world for the first time. Moreover, my colleagues and I also developed our teaching competences in the process of mentoring her.”
Ahlam Saif Al Kindi, another senior B.Ed student who mentored contestant Aisha Saleh, said: “Aisha said she was glad with the new experience, it was her first time actually teaching, and the experience was enjoyable and well received by the audience. It was a good idea for us as a student teacher to take a break from our assessments, to participate in preparing the foundation students for the contest and give them ideas about our programme.”
The contest is one in the series of many planned by the FJW Education Division in a bid to win the hearts and minds of the Foundations level students to consider taking up teaching as a career.
Overall, the event had a highly positive impact on the contestants who expressed interest to know more about the Education programme.
