DBW Launches Inaugural Digital Volunteer Fair with ‘Spirit of Giving’ Theme

1 year

Under the theme of ‘Spirit of Giving’, the HCT-Dubai Women’s campus (DBW) launched its first Digital Volunteer Fair from January 25-29, 2017.

The Volunteer Digital Fair aimed to instill a desire and eagerness for volunteering among students and to encourage them to perceive volunteering as a national requirement. It also facilitated volunteering opportunities in different fields for the students, who are required to complete the 100 volunteering hours as a graduation requirement.

The online platform enables students to register their volunteering choices throughout the academic year, whereby they have the ease of registering and participating in various opportunities without needing to physically visit the event venue or host.

The interactive platform was launched with a message from Dr Tarifa Al Zaabi, DBW Director, introducing students to the Digital Volunteer Fair and stressing the fact that students can now visit the websites of participating organizations to learn more about their activities.

Thanking the participating organizations, Dr Tarifa said: “I would like to thank all the institutions and organizations involved that have shown a positive reaction to the idea of a digital exhibition that provides volunteer opportunities and strengthens the volunteer culture among students.”

At the launch of the fair on January 25, students were asked to acknowledge the code of conduct for the Volunteer Programme, which imparts the ethics of honesty and creditability of volunteering.  They were also guided by current student volunteers on how to register their volunteering choices.

DBW Health Sciences student, Maryam Mohammed Alnaqbi, said: “Being a student from Kalba City, it was difficult for me to find opportunities in Dubai. Through the Digital Volunteer Fair offered at DBW, students like me can find different volunteer offerings which will help me gain new skills, boost my career prospects, and to better understand my community.”
