A group of students from HCT-Dubai Women’s campus (DBW), majoring in Security and Forensics, recently visited the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Headquarters, Dubai, where they were able to brainstorm innovative ideas in IT security with RTA management.
The tour was strongly aligned to the students’ study courses of Principles of Information Assurance, Security and Privacy and Cyber Law and Ethics.
Abdulla Al Bastaki, the RTA IT Director, welcomed the students with a brief overview about RTA’s achievements and career opportunities. Colin Hu, Huawei UAE Vice President, spoke on Digital Information Security, while Jorge Sebastion, Huawei Security Expert, presented recent incidents in IT Security and engaged students in a brainstorming session.
The highly informative and interactive session aimed to generate a range of innovative ideas to provide more secure and interactive applications for RTA.
DBW CIS Faculty and trip organizer, Dr. Arif Mushtaq, said the field trip was strongly aligned and significant to the course objectives. “Students were motivated seeing the relevance of the knowledge they gained in the classroom being used in the field. Some students also made the decision to become Information Security Analyst after completing their respective degrees” he said.
Dr. Nasser Nassiri, HCT Computer Information Science (CIS) Associate Dean, said the field trips for students were integral to their experiential learning. “We plan to have periodic study tours for our students to expose them to application of IT in diverse fields,” he said.
DBW Acting CIS Chair, Dr. Vish Akre, said: “RTA has been an integral part of the Dubai ecosystem, providing citizens with necessary transportation through its network of trams, buses, the Metro, taxis and other mechanisms. The CIS Division at Dubai Women’s is thankful to RTA for providing this field trip opportunity to our students.”
RTA is responsible for planning and providing the requirements of transport, roads & traffic in the Emirate of Dubai, as well as between Dubai and the other Emirates of the UAE and neighboring countries in order to provide an effective & an integrated transport system capable of achieving Dubai’s vision & serving the vital interests of the Emirate.
