DBM Students & Graduates Connect to their Future at Careers Day

1 year

Under the theme of “Connecting to your Future”, the HCT-Dubai Men’s campus (DBM) held its annual Careers Day on February 22, with the active participation of 54 government institutions, national and multinational companies.

Careers Day was formally inaugurated by Dr Khaled Al Hammadi, DBM Director, together with the campus senior management team and Academic Programme Chairs, who toured the display booths to welcome all the participating companies and to wish them a successful event.

More than 1000 students and graduates across all academic programmes attended the exhibition and thrived off the upbeat atmosphere while visiting all display booths to explore the current and future job opportunities offered for UAE Nationals. They eagerly engaged with the representatives, while learning about employees’ career growth at each of the companies. They also interacted with DBM’s alumni who represented many companies at the fair, and who encouraged graduating students to join them.

Faisal Abdulbaqi, Civil Engineering student who spoke with a high enthusiasm about his future employment, said: “I am looking for an employer who is willing to broaden my knowledge, nurture my skills, and provide me with the experience that I need after graduation. I am not really interested to work for an employer who can give me a competitive salary, without focusing on my career development and growth.”

DBM’s Careers Day 2017 was not only an ideal platform for graduates seeking employment opportunities, but it was also a great chance for building a strong career awareness among current students by allowing them to reflect on their knowledge, skills, abilities and talents and how they can be used to explore suitable future employment opportunities.

The employment opportunities that were promoted by the companies not only focused on graduates, but also accommodated the needs of current students who are required to go through a series of career related learning experiences before they are ready to join the UAE’s competitive workforce as full time employees.

The employment opportunities offered to students and graduates were diverse, with companies promoting full time, part time, internships, voluntary work, summer jobs and scholarship opportunities for students.

During the day, students participated in two competitions where they voted for the Best Booth Design and for Employer of the Day-Students’ Choice Award. The Best Booth Design Award went to Dubai Creative Clusters Authority while the Employer of the Day-Students’ Choice Award went to Emirates Global Aluminium.

Careers Day 2017 was concluded with a closing ceremony by Dr Khaled Al Hammadi and DBM’s Senior Management Team who presented the employer awards to the winning companies and presented certificates of appreciation to all the participating companies and thanked them for their effective participation in the successful day.
