HCT Al Ain Men’s campus (AAM) students have been given a glimpse of study experiences in New York when the campus hosted a session on the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Scholars Program (SMSP) by New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) on January 18.

The session introduced the SMSP edition for the 2016-17 academic year, designed for academically high-achieving undergraduate students in the junior and senior years of their Bachelor degrees. The programme aims to prepare students for success in graduate and professional study.

The SMSP, which was established in 2008 by NYUAD in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Education Council, trains scholars in critical thinking, writing, public speaking, and leadership. It is offered to competitively-selected students from the UAE’s federal universities – UAE University, Higher Colleges of Technology, and Zayed University.

SMSP Executive Director, Diane Yu, and three programme alumni presented to the students, who spoke in detail about the programme, their experience, the challenges they face in addition to their highly positive experiences. They happily answered the many questions from the students.

About 60 AAM students attended the session from the different majors, and showed great interest in the programme, asking many meaningful and valuable questions while interacting with the three SMSP alumni. The students said it would be a great opportunity for them and they look forward to joining the programme and get the chance to live the experience, travel to New York and Washington, DC, and visit the significant historical and cultural places.

Sana Tobeh, AAM Career Advisor, said the programme instills an appetite for lifelong learning, noting the session was as captivating as it was entertaining with many students contacting her for further questions on how to join and register for this scholarship.
