SJW Student’s (Almost) Check-Mate at HESF Chess Tournament

4 years

Congratulations to HCT-Sharjah Women’s Campus (SWJ) student Alya Al Maazmi for her 4th  placing at the HESF Chess Tournament, held at the Sharjah University on November 22.

Despite not taking out the title in a field of highly skilled chess players from across the region, Alya played extremely well and was thrilled with her result and the experience.  “I had a great evening and it was enjoyable to play against other very experienced players. I had a very good time,” she said.

The tournament was not only a test of her skills, but also her stamina with Alya playing game after game for two consecutive hours, keeping the utmost concentration throughout.

A Chess enthusiast from a young age, Alya has spent many years playing chess to perfect her game. This showed on the night as her winning record kept on increasing. Even when defeated her motivation and happy spirit throughout the evening showed, with her smile always present.

She is a wonderful role model for other students who are already playing, or learning to play, or even just thinking about taking up chess!
