The world of animation came alive for a group of Corporate Communications students at the Fujairah Women’s Campus (FJW) when they attended a workshop at the Cartoon Art Gallery in Dubai.
The Cartoon Art Gallery is the first gallery in the Middle East specifically for the art of cartooning and animation and the workshop was a real-world introduction for the students to learn how to make corporate communication more effective by using unique illustrations and cartoon-style storytelling.
Mrinmay Sebastian, Gallery Manager, introduced the Art Gallery and the present exhibition, Smile of a Woman around the World. Chitra Sudakaran, a visual artist at the gallery, gave an illustrative and informative lecture connecting communication in companies to cartoons.
The students had the great pleasure to meet French artist Isabelle Noor whose art depics women representing humanity, cultural treasures and heritage with a smile on their faces. Her colourful and decorative paintings are based on true stories, as well as authentic photographs of the women behind the stories.
As part of the interactive workshop the students made their own stories in cartoon style, and sketched live, still drawings of the gallery environment.
The students summarized their experience of the workshop by collectively saying: “The whole visit gave us insight to gallery business and cartoons not being only for kids, and it was useful by all means, personally and professionally.”
