The HCT-Sharjah Men’s College’s (SMC) Ligma Khafefa Club is on a tasty mission to educate students and faculty about healthy eating choices.
And the club members have put this philosophy into action at its first event on October 16 where students and faculty worked with the club’s leader, Maysa Hammoudeh, to cook and serve a healthy lunch for all to enjoy.
The event, which coincided with World Food Day, was opened by Dr. Ged Ryan and Maitha Al Shamsi, who said they were very happy to see students and faculty working together to raise awareness about how healthy eating is a choice we all make, and that it should also be an enjoyable experience.
Students and staff sampled a range of local and international dishes from Jordan, Italy South Korea, and the UAE such as “Machboos”, “lazanya” , “Bibimbap” and “Vine leaves”.
Khalid Mohamed Al Suwaidi who joined the club and cooked “Machboos” said: “The event offered the members of the club an opportunity to use their talents and learn new things from their peers. We enjoyed the experience very much.”
Another student, Yousif, who also joined the club said: “It gave us a chance to showcase our cooking talents, and to learn more about local and international cuisine. It was fun.”
Club founder Maysa said: “It was great how students and staff worked together to make our first event possible. We are looking forward to the next Ligma Khafefa event around National Day.”
