Sharjah Colleges Inspire Love of Reading with Book Fair

4 years

In celebration of the Year of Reading, the HCT-Sharjah Colleges hosted a book fair on October 26 and 27, in cooperation with the Kinokuniya Bookstore.

KinoKuniya brought over 160 boxes of books, ranging from fiction to IELTS test prep, Arabic fiction and even stationery products.

Throughout the day students, faculty and staff could be seen lining the booths, busily scanning through materials looking for that perfect book or product.

Sharjah Men’s College (SMC) student Sultan Ibrahim said: “The book fair was great! I had a fun time selecting and reading some books, and then I found out some were the same ones my friend was reading. I am glad the library brought the book fair to our campus.”

SWC Student Moza Rashid Obaid Thani Alshamsi was really happy when they extended the fair for another day after missing the first day due to classes. “I was able to attend the second day and I found many books to read. It was such a great event,” she said.

Michael Gaffney, Librarian at the HCT-Sharjah Women’s College, expressed his gratitude to the colleges and Kinokuniya for providing the material and setting up the fair so that the students at both campuses could develop a love of reading.

Prior to the book fair, students at both campuses received Kinokuniya vouchers for their participation in various reading-based contests held in the libraries ranging from a Library Detective activity to a Library Quiz, a Read and Read More campaign, M-Reader participation and a daily library-related Word Jumble game.
