The HCT-Al Ain Women’s College (AAWC) celebrated UAE Flag Day on Thursday, November 3 with colour, flair and national pride clearly evident around the campus.
Students, faculty and staff gathered to participate in this uplifting national occasion and raise the flag at 11 am to mark His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s accession as President of the UAE. This year marked the President’s 11th anniversary.
The AAWC family reaffirmed its allegiance to the UAE flag, which is a symbol of the country’s unity and greatness and represents the nation’s aspirations for a better future.
The AAWC Flag Day celebrations started with the ceremonial raising of the UAE flag, followed by a performance of the pledge to reaffirm allegiance to the UAE and its rulers. The moving ceremony was concluded with a friendly gathering with refreshments, giveaways and decorations for all attendees.
“Flag Day is a celebration of our values and unity,” Mrs. Hamsa Al Ammari, AAWC Director, said.
“On this day we all gather and stand together to raise it high, raise it with pride. We also celebrate the values the flag stands for; unity, tolerance, the values of the past and the ambitions of the future. As His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai, tweeted, ‘Raise the flag as high as the nation’s ambition’. May God protect our country, nation and wise rulers,” Mrs Hamsa added.
Alia Mubarak Al Shamisi, a Business student, enthused about the day: “It brings me joy and happiness to be able to stand here today and participate in raising the flag, to be one of the people who lives in this outstanding land and to be a part of this memorable day. The UAE is a country that makes us all hold our heads up high and be proud wherever we go. May God protect this land,” she said.
