Mariam Al Qassab, a HCT-Sharjah Women’s College (SWC) Business student, presented an impressive speech to be crowned the Ace Speaker winner at the 3rd Visions2Reality Conference in Dubai on November 12, 2014.

The speech, entitled “My Role Model”, won first place in the conference competition among UAE university students.

The audience was moved by how Mariam drew inspiration from the the life of the late HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the UAE (May God Protect His Soul), who had become a role model for her, and how his values had a profound influence on her life.

Mariam also challenged the 400 industry delegates attending the conference to invest in Emirati talent. She reminded the delegates that this would be an excellent way for them to give back to their nation.

The Visions2Reality Conference is the result of a cooperative agreement between the Dubai Economic Development Department and the Sharjah Islamic Bank Academy. The aim of the conference is to foster the generation of innovative ideas from university students in various topics relevant to the practice of business in the UAE.

Four SWC Business students participated in the first round of the speaking competition, being Mariam Al Qassab, Fatima Abdelghafour, Aya Al Hosany and Noura Al Jneibi.

Mariam and Fatima, who were mentored by Chris Storey and Dr Pranav Naithani respectively, went through to the second round. In the second round Mariam managed to produce an outstanding performance to gain first place against stiff competitors from Zayed University and Hamden Bib Mohammed Smart University.
