Insight Dubai Conference Celebrates 10th Year

6 years

The HCT-Dubai Women’s College (DWC) inaugurated its 10th Annual Insight Dubai Conference, focusing on women and empowerment in the Arab world this week.

The Insight Dubai Conference 2014 has succeeded again this year in making the world a little smaller. It is bringing together 80 female students from universities and colleges from more than 30 countries with 80 female Emirati students from Dubai Women’s College.

The delegates spend an exciting, interactive five days discussing issues on women’s empowerment and women’s roles in governance and leadership. This conference is exceptional as it enables each participant to take an active role in simulations, debates, role plays and discussions to share their views and learn from one another. In this way participants increasingly realise how much unites them as women on the world stage, and to see their differences in a new perspective.

Dr Saoud Al Mulla, Director of Dubai Women’s College, commented that: “the Insight Dubai Conference is an excellent opportunity for these 80 participating students of DWC.  This five-day event will provide an abundance of benefits and a great global experience.”

Dr Monica Gallant, Chair of the Business Programme stressed: “I am proud to have organised this conference for the past 10 years. It plays an important role in dispelling cultural myths, forming bonds, and fostering greater understanding about global issues relevant to women from around the world.”

The five-day conference, which this year is generously sponsored  by HSBC, kicked off with some thought-provoking films on modern Dubai culture. This was followed by more intimate group sessions where the participants met their “buddy”.

Each international student is “buddied” with a DWC student for the duration of the conference, allowing a deep mutual cultural exchange that often grows into a lifelong friendship. The first day concluded with a Group Values activity, where student groups decided on a set of common values for their team which were presented at a barbeque under the stars where all participants could relax, eat together and reflect on the day’s events.

DWC, which hosts the Insight Dubai conference, was the first academic institution to win the Dubai Quality Appreciation Award in 2006. It  also initiates and hosts other international conferences which seek to empower women to become global leaders.
