RAK Men’s College hosts 8th Annual HCT Traditional Boat Race

8 years

The Sharjah Men’s College team held off a resilient young Ras Al Khaimah crew to win the Higher Colleges of Technology Traditional Boat Race on April 19.

This was the 8th time that the rowing teams from the HCT colleges have competed on Khor Ras Al Khaimah.

On the afternoon of April 19, crews from the HCT Men’s Colleges at Al Ain, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Sharjah met on Khor Ras Al Khaimah to compete along a 3.5 km rowing course.

In a grueling race that is always a test of stamina, teamwork, and strategy all of the teams brought honor to themselves, their teams, and their colleges.

Sharjah Men’s College lead the race from start to finish, but the boys from RAK gave them a real challenge.  In an exciting finish that brought credit to UAE rowing traditions, Sharjah narrowly beat their RAK rivals.

AAMC performed well and finished in third place, ahead of FMC, followed by DMC in fifth. But in this race, which was marked by good sportsmanship and incredible effort, all contestants were winners.

With this win, SMC took home the coveted ‘Sahrookh’ trophy for the 4th time, equaling RKMC’s record.  RKMC won the inaugural event in 2004.  The race was not held in 2005.  SMC was victorious in 2006 and 2007.  RKMC won in 2008 and retained the trophy until 2011 when SMC reclaimed the title that it successfully defended this year.
