HCT 21st Annual Conference

The 2008/09 Higher Colleges of Technology academic year kicks off at the 21st Annual Conference on 27 August.

Held at the Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai, the conference is a highlight for faculty and staff on the academic calendar, featuring speakers and presenters from the HCT and the international higher education community.

This year’s conference will explore how the HCT can encourage sustainability and maintain culture of excellence in its third decade.

The conference also provides an important networking opportunity for faculty and staff system-wide.

More than 1,500 staff and faculty will attend the conference which will feature an opening address and award presentation by HE Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor of the HCT.

There will also be two keynote addresses by esteemed guests, Dr RK Pachauri (Nobel Peace Prize winner 2007 and Chairman, Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change) and Dr Bette E Landman (President Emeritus, Arcadia University).

The HCT also welcomes special presenters Dr Terrence K Pierson (Vice President, Research Triangle Institute, Environmental Sciences Unit), Dr William L Chameides (Dean of the Nicholas School, Duke University), Dr K Lakshminarayana IAS, (former Commissioner of Collegiate Education for the Government of Andhra Pradesh) and guest Dr Takehiko Sugiyama (President, Hitotsubashi University).

The conference tracks will address the role of educators in sustainable development; best practices that can be learned from as an evolving institution of higher education; and the elements of evidence, research and accreditation from the HCT Strategic Plan.

Sessions will explore these fundamentals as well as the roles and responsibilities in implementing initiatives over the course of the academic year.
