The Sharjah Women’s Quiz team, and a group of supporters, recently travelled to Al Ain to participate in the annual  HCT Foundations Quiz, in which contestants from each College competed in seven different areas of knowledge to be crowned overall winner.

Those fields include the UAE, geography, spelling, vocabulary and grammar, maths and general knowledge. And once again, the Sharjah Women’s Quiz team brought home the first place trophy.

Amazingly, this was SWC’s fifth win in a row – winning every competition since its since its inception.

The team was made up of Noorah Nofal Salem Obaid Al Muhairi, Bakhita Saghayir Mubarak Markhan Al Ktebi, Zainab Khalaf Ali Mohamed Ali Al Hosany, Eiman Abdulla Jasem Dagher Al Marzooqi, Kaltham Matar Rashid Saeed Metrif Al Tunaiji, all of whom are level 3 students.

When they started the training, there was this feeling of uncertainty whether they can pull it off.  They spent most of their free time preparing for the quiz and it was not easy.  The pressure of dealing with the day to day requirements in Foundations, coupled with the time and effort they have put in along with their coaches Hada and Alyson and the desire to win the trophy back after 4 consecutive wins was taking its toll on them. But amazingly, they persevered, worked very hard as a team and made it!

They  were well prepared to face teams from Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Madinat Zayed/Rowais, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. They were accompanied by their coaches Hada Shamma and Alyson Gibbons-Menzies.

The SWC Quiz Team took the lead from the beginning and stayed ahead of the other 6 colleges throughout the competition.  They played their Joker in the geography round, doubling their points where they received the highest number of points  (38) in any one round from among all the colleges.

The Quiz Team’s performance was outstanding throughout the competition with the leading score each time the scoreboard was shown.  At the end of the competition the team won with a total of 98 points, 18 points ahead of Al Ain, the runners up.

The whole experience was very educational for the team members who spent a lot of their free time at the college preparing for it.  The Quiz team was awarded medals  and presented with the trophy once again which they graciously accepted.

The team, supporters and coach were all proud to bring back the trophy to Sharjah. SWC will keep the trophy as a reward for having won every Foundations Quiz to date. Next year we will be trying just as hard to bring the new one home too!
