Hersey and Blanchard suggested 4 styles of leadership.
Which style is appropriate is determined by the situation in which a leader finds himself or herself. To be effective the chosen style should match the development or maturity levels of the team members or followers.
This was one of the learning outcomes this week for the leadership students at FMC.
All semester, 1st Year Engineers have been working with peers and other students to hone their leadership skills. This week they planned and delivered a mini Environmental Conference at a local school in Khor Fakkan.
Well aware of their audience, average age 8 to 11, the students gave a fun-filled yet informative day for which the children and teachers were grateful. Selling, telling, participating and delegating all have distinct features and the leadership abilities of our students were put to the test during a the day that involved lectures, planting, competitions, art and craft and a small play.
The group was accompanied by Aishah Kendi, a regular chaperone from FMC who has seen the benefits this semester of exposing the students to a variety of new experiences and extending their comfort zones.
“We are proud of our students in being so innovative, responsible and of thinking what they can do for others in the local community,” Aishah said.
Both the school and the Municipality presented the FMC students with certificates and awards to recognize their achievement which the Engineers proudly displayed back in Fujairah.
